WiLSWorld Shorts Webinar: Social Work Concepts in Libraries
On Friday, October 13th, 2023 at 1:00 pm CT we held WiLSWorld Shorts: Social Work Concepts in Libraries. This edition welcomed speakers Ashley Cedeño, Library Social Worker at the Racine Public Library; Debbie Minsky-Kelly, Field Director and Clinical Assistant Professor at the Carthage College School of Social Work; and Libby Richter, Community Resource Specialist at L.E. Phillips Memorial Public Library in Eau Claire.
This workshop allowed participants to learn what social work in and with the library looks like, why some libraries consider it, as well as the benefits and challenges. Participants also learned how to apply social work concepts no matter their budgetary constraints. Common models of library/social work partnerships were discussed. Panelists discussed their social work programs and models to demonstrate how these programs are tailored to unique community needs.
